During college, I had the distinct privilege of meeting some amazingly creative people (you know a few of these folks as the Abquencity authors). One of the coolest and most original guys I came across was my good friend Chris.
He’s one of those dynamic people that you can sit down with, have a conversation about a deeply concerning topic, but then eventually turns it around and has you in stitches by the end. The man is simply thoughtful, intelligent, and wildly funny.
That’s why I’m extremely excited to say that he’ll be joining us here at Abquencity next week.
We were kickin’ back a few weeks ago and talking about our similar creative journeys. Akin to how Abquencity has been a great practice area for us, Chris has been developing his webcomic skills on his site, GameLand, Etc. After a short discussion of our sites’ goals, it seemed like a logical thing to combine efforts.
So to prepare for the arrival of Chris’s fantastic nerd-inspired web comic, I encourage you to check it out from the beginning before his latest strip arrives at Abquencity next week. Click here for a smile.

To me, the Fourth of July is always host to a week of being thankful. Thankful for health, family, friends, and most of all, life. It may be a holiday to celebrate American nationalism, but it’s not the flag that we celebrate – but what’s behind it. To do so, Abquencity is taking a week off to enjoy all that is. We hope that you’ll also take the week to cherish what you have and what to be thankful for.
We’ll be back next Wednesday. Until then, happy Independence Day if you’re in the U.S. Hope Canada Day went well if you’re Canadian. Or, if you’re from some other brilliant place in the world, have just as happy of a week.

Getting a web site to take off is a lot like getting a hippopotamus to fly. It’s ridiculously hard to do and usually impossible unless you have the cash to buy a few rocket boosters. But, nevertheless, even when a hippo tries to fly to no avail, it makes for a pretty funny show to anyone watching and it makes that one hippo stand out from all the others.
Yesterday marked the end of the first month of Abquencity and I wanted to take a quick moment to thank everyone who’s stopped by. We’ve gotten a bunch of feedback from friends, family, and random visitors to the site and I’m happy to report that none of it has been bad. To boot, our traffic has been much better than a site just starting off should expect – so thanks for sharing.
However, most importantly, I wanted to publicly thank the authors of Abquencity. If this site is a hippo, they are most certainly the rocket boosters that are slowly, but quite surely, collecting fuel.
Stay posted — it only gets better from here.

Shish kebab. Yeah, the meat on a stick. The name sounds pretty strange in English, but I’ll bet it sounded odd in its original language when it was first used too. After all, it was probably strange at first to chop up your meat into little cubes and shove them onto a thin piece of wood.
But what does that have to do with this site?
“Shish” stands for “skewer” (or a small thin stick) and “kebab” means “fried meat”. In other words, its the combination of two ideas. “Abquencity” is really the same thing – only safer for vegetarians. It’s the combination of “absurdity” and “eloquence”.
Shish kebab probably started off as a practical and creative way to cook meat. Put the meat on a stick so that you can eat it without burning your hands off. Plus, the cube concept made the chucks nice and bite-sized!
Abquencity will hopefully be just as creative as shish kebab. We’re a bunch of young twenty-somethings that love to write, draw, photograph, and create eloquent, if occasionally absurd, things. Hardly professionals, this site is merely our practice grounds for our favorite forms of expression and art. However, by experimenting online, we’ll hopefully get the feedback and exposure that will help us get better. To boot, we’re betting that you’ll get plenty of enjoyment along the way.
So that’s it in a nutshell: Abquencity is a bunch of creative bloggers. Like how shish kebab turned into “grilled meat” instead of “fried meat”, we’ll evolve over time and hope that you’ll join us for the ride.
